"THE HOUSING AUTHORITY OF THE CITY OF CAMDEN (HACC) CELEBRATES 1ST PHASE OF BALDWIN'S RUN"

Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for Carpenter Hill

The Housing Authority of the City of Camden (HACC) in partnership with the St. Joseph's Carpenter Society as part of the Baldwin's Run (formerly Westfield Acres) project will celebrate a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on Thursday, December 12, 2002 at 302 N. 32nd Street, Camden, New Jersey 08105.

Since the awarding of $35 million dollars announced July 26, 2000 from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, the Authority has been moving forward in its plans of constructing newness, growth, hope and more housing opportunities to the residents of Camden City. Through the rental opportunities provided through Carpenter Hill, residents are very eager to move into the first phase of Baldwin's Run.

A total of 49 units are completed within Carpenter Hill. Each unit consists of three bedrooms with 1.5 baths with the exception of 4 handicapped units, consisting of 2 bedrooms. There is off street parking, security systems, central air, washer dryer hook-ups, outdoor storage and fenced backyards. A total of 30 units are public housing units. "All former residents of Westfield Acres were also mailed rental housing applications", stated Dr. Maria Marquez, Executive Director.

Formerly Westfield Acres known for its drug infestation, now "Recaptures the heart of the Community" with the replacement and renaming to Baldwin's Run.
Thus begins a renewed sense of pride and dignity to a once down trodden neighborhood. It is anticipated by early next year (2003) to see residents moving onto the Baldwin's Run Property.

Besides the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and the HACC our partners include the Department of Community Affairs, NJ Housing and Mortgage and Finance Agency, St. Joseph's Carpenter Society, The City of Camden, as well as a large number of community groups and service providers. Developers for the Baldwin's Run project are Pennrose Properties, Inc. in partnership with St. Joseph's Carpenter Society.

Dr. Maria Marquez, Executive Director, stated, "We are very pleased in joining forces with our partners, community and residents as we celebrate the first phase of Baldwin's Run."
