HOUSING AUTHORITY OF THE CITY OF CAMDEN ANNOUNCES NEW "FAMILY
SELF SUFFICIENCY" PROGRAM
(HOMEOWNERSHIP OPPORTUNITIES ARE WITHIN REACH)
The Housing Authority of the City of Camden (HACC) proudly announces
the beginning of its Family Self Sufficiency Program. The program
will assist fifty (50) adults presently participating in our Section
8 Program into job training, child care, counseling, transportation
and job placement.
Participants in the FSS Program, some of whom are on welfare, sign
a contract that stipulates the head of household will get a job
and the family will become self sufficient within five years. While
enrolled in the program, as the family's income rises, a third of
the income goes into an interest bearing escrow account. If a family
fulfills the contract requiring employment and independence from
welfare, they can use the escrow accounts for down payment on a
home purchase, starting a business, paying back debts and paying
educational expenses. If the family fails to fulfill the contract,
they do not get the fund in the escrow account and may be terminated
from the FSS Program.
Dr. Maria Marquez, Executive Director, stated " we are very
pleased to provide another opportunity for our residents to continue
to improve their life with adequate resources available throughout
our agency. Our goal is to assist fifty families by December 31,
2002 through the FSS Program".
