HOPE VI Program

HOPE VI is a US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) initiative to transform the most distressed public housing projects in the nation and works on both improving the physical quality of public housing and expanding the opportunities of its residents. It represents the most dramatic change of direction in the history of U.S. public housing policy. In May 2000, HACC applied to HUD for HOPE VI funding. The funding was approved and the money has been used for a variety of purposes.

Resident Initiatives Department

The residents of the HACC are characterized by a set of complex problems that mirror those of society at large. Our job is to understand their needs and provide services, education and training that help them become more self-sufficient. Highlighted below are some of the exciting programs we currently offer.


Section 8 Housing

The HACC Section 8 Rental Assistance Program has leased 1000 families through November 2002. The program was awarded High Performer Status for 2001 in September and picked up a NAHRO Merit Award for 2001 as well.

The department also started a Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) Program for 50 initial families and a Section 8 Home Ownership Program with a goal of 10 families being homeowners by December 2003.

Modernization & Development Department

The Modernization Department is funded through the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). HUD provides a yearly Capital Fund Program (CFP) grant.

Property Management Department

It is the responsibility of the Property Management Department to provide safe, decent & sanitary housing. Responsibilities include:

    • Rent Collection
    • Maintenance Repairs
    • Resident Referrals
    • Overall Resident Satisfaction

We have implemented new programs to provide more efficient and quality services for our residents.

The Occupancy Department is also under the direction of Property Management. Annual and interim re-certifications are completed on over 1,300 head of household and co-head residents Authority wide.
